Day Before Easter

Easter is tomorrow and I'm having a hard time with this holiday. I mean, how are you supposed to get a 2 year-old to understand the Crucifixion and the Atonement? I'm sure I don't understand it 100%, but I get the basics at least. Gwen doesn't get the concept of death, so teaching her about Resurrection is right out. But the Easter Bunny is much easier for a 2 year-old to understand. A giant bunny that brings eggs with candy in them and small presents in a basket is fairly believable if not understandable when you're little. Well, we're doing our est by celebrating all the secular parts of Easter today and saving tomorrow to talk more about how it's a special day to thank Jesus for all he does for us.
Yesterday we went up to Layton to dye eggs with Noah, Sam, and Jami at Aunt Laura's house. I forgot to bring an extra shirt that I wouldn't mind getting messy, so we just let Gwen wear an old apron instead. Gwen loves her cousin Noah. He's 9 months older than her and she thinks he's so cool. They get along really well too.
Noah had climbed up on this chair and Gwen got up right behind him and started giving him hugs. It was very cute.
The girls were very careful about their egg dying and Noah preferred to dunk his eggs in multiple dyes and fish them out again with his bare hands.

Emily was fussy the whole afternoon and finally cheered up when we left her alone on the floor in the next room. She's 7 weeks old already.

Today we went over to Grandma and Grandpa's house for some Easter egg hunting. Gwen was a lot better at it this year and had a lot of fun.

The Living Planet Aquarium

I only have one and a half weeks of maternity leave left so we're trying to take advantage of these last few days together. Luckily, the weather is being nice to us today and we were able to be outside for a while. We went to a random park in Sandy City and had lunch and Gwen ran around with some 3 year old boys for an hour or so. Then we went to the Living Planet Aquarium. We'd never been there before which is too bad because Gwen loved it and it would have been a great indoor place to hang out during the winter. It will be fun during the summer too because it's nice and air conditioned inside. We carried Emily around in her sling and she slept the entire time.
Gwen was scared to touch the stingrays and fish in the pond. I was surprised at how slimy and squishy they felt. She did put her hands in the smaller pools with the sea urchins in them but didn't touch them. It was a little deep for her.Jonathan and I bought season passes so we'll be back for sure. I love that they even have a little cave exploring area and lots of places to sit and watch Gwen bug the older kids instead of me for once. The very best part of the day was when Gwen grabbed my hand and said "Momma, me go potty." We ran to the bathroom and she went potty in the big potty all by herself. YAY! She also did that last night when we were visiting Grandma Buckholts. Seems like our potty training efforts might be back on track. In fact she just went in the bathroom and I heard the potty flush. Yup, she did it again!
